Developer’s plans for Heathfield Carwash site refused

26th January

Today’s Wealden Planning Committee South was in session, 26 January 2023, to review a range of local development plans. One plan which was up for review again is the proposal to develop the popular Heathfield Carwash site on the Burwash Road. The developer wants to create a new housing development of four three bedroom houses.

Despite the developer’s commitment to create a much needed pedestrian crossing to help mitigate the already present traffic dangers that challenge the local Heathfield Community College pupils on a daily basis; the plan was refused.

Local councillors Bowdler and Cade spoke in opposition and highlighted the fact that the site was not suitable for domestic dwellings due to the proximity to the road and neighbouring industrial buldings and the accompanying poor air quality.

The vote was carried with eight councillors refusing the application.
