What’s On: Hospice in the Weald Open Morning, Five Ashes
Hospice in the Weald will be opening its doors on Thursday 9th October, inviting people to drop in between 10am and noon for a warm welcome, a hot drink, and the chance to learn more about its vital role in the community.
The Five Ashes site, set on The Street (A267), will host the event as part of Hospice Care Week. Visitors can expect tea, coffee and cake alongside talks, tours and conversations with staff. Two short presentations, at 10.30am and 11.30am, will explain how the hospice’s ongoing transformation programme is reshaping services, including the much-anticipated return of inpatient care to the Five Ashes building.
More than medical care
The hospice has long been a cornerstone for families in West Kent and East Sussex. It provides free support to anyone affected by life-threatening or life-limiting illness, with care tailored to what matters most to each person. That might mean helping a patient continue a daily walk, supporting a carer through difficult decisions, or simply creating time and space for precious family moments.
As part of the Open Morning, visitors can tour the modernised building, including private bedrooms with views across the surrounding fields. Staff will also be on hand to talk about resources for carers and guidance for those planning for later stages of life.
A community presence
While the Open Morning will be especially helpful for those facing illness, the invitation extends to everyone. Organisers hope to see neighbours, supporters and the simply curious walk through the doors. For decades, Hospice in the Weald has been woven into local life — from fundraising events and charity shops to the countless volunteers who give their time. This event is as much about celebrating that community spirit as it is about showcasing services.
