SUMMARY:Open Evening at The Observatory Science Centre: Mars at Opposition
DESCRIPTION:Mars and Earth orbit the Sun at different distances and speeds.
  However\, there are occasions when both planets and the Sun form a straig
 ht line during the course of their orbits\, with Earth in the middle. This
  is called opposition and will occur this year on the 27th July when Mars 
 will be at a relatively close distance of 58 million km from us. Come and 
 join us to view the Red Planet and listen to an informative talk about Mar
 s at opposition. Also on show will be Jupiter and Saturn along with a numb
 er of beautiful deep sky objects.\n\nViewing on Open Evenings is always we
 ather dependant so please check the forecast on the day\, especially if yo
 u are travelling some distance. However\, we do offer a cloudy night conti
 ngency plan\, usually a planetarium style talk\, depending on the number o
 f visitors in the Centre.\n\nDoors open at 8pm and we finish around 12.30a
