The Wealden Dog Agility Club will be running an all-day event this year which is a knock out competition. The fastest and most agile over a timed course will win the competition. This contest is new and brings a new dimension of competition to the show.
The contest incorporates the Sussex Open Championships for dogs and handlers who both reside in Sussex. Agility was first introduced to the UK at Crufts 1978 and the structure of the competition has not changed very much over the years. It’s a comparatively new form of dog competition where each animal’s fitness and the handler’s ability to train and direct the dog over and through certain obstacles are tested. It is fast, furious and a great favourite with competitors and spectators alike.
The terrie
The United Retriever Club (Southern Area) will be demonstrating the skills of their Retrievers in the Country Ways ring. These are highly trained gun dogs and a great opportunity to see them in action.
There are lots of stalls selling dog-related products at the show including Ben and Jakes (M168) who sell home-made gourmet dog treats using human-grade ingredients with no added flavours, fillers or preservatives.
Make sure you visit the Rupington Country Collection in the shopping arcade for soft leather collars, rope leads, made from quality natural products in subtle colours, dog drying coats, beautiful beds and more.
Unfortunately our beloved four-legged friends don’t live forever so if you want to capture your pet’s image on canvas look no further than pet portraits by Louise Birch Art in the New Enterprise Zone.
And you must include a visit to The Canine Collection (M166) which sells a huge range of doggie related items from water bottles for your dog to bow ties for pooches.
At The Spotty Dog Company (M170) you can find everything from dog blankets to dog bandanas and even handmade cushions featuring a variety of different breeds
Last but not least there is a chance to meet the team from Oscar Pet Food (G102) who sell pet food along with a huge range of accessories
Pet dogs are allowed at the show but not encouraged and there are many areas of the showground where dogs are not allowed. Dogs must be under control at all times and kept on a short fixed length lead (retractable leads are not acceptable) and never left unattended.
