Roadworks coming to A265 near Heathfield

MOTORISTS are being advised of a series of roadworks taking place on roads local to Heathfield, East Sussex. East Sussex Highways will be carrying out kerbing and road repair work on the A265 at Broad Oak and Burwash Weald, in January, February and March 2020

The scheme begins with kerbing to the road at Broad Oak from January 13 to 24, with manually-controlled temporary traffic lights in place.

From February 3 to 11, repairs will be carried out at Burwash Weald, with the A265 closed between 8pm and 6am each night from 150m east of Willingford Lane to Coppers Hill.

Finally, from Feb 26 to March 20, the A265 at Broad Oak will be repaired, with the road closed from 8pm to 6am every night between Battle Road and Halley Road.

During the road closures, a diversion route will be in place via Battle Road, North Trade Road, London Road, A21 Johns Cross roundabout, Robertsbridge bypass, A21 London Road and the A265 Station Road.

Karl Taylor, East Sussex County Council assistant director for operations, said: “Sections of this road are in need of work due to the heavy load of traffic it carries every day.

“The work we’re carrying out will provide a smoother, safer ride and extend the life of the carriageway for many years to come.

“By only closing the roads to through traffic at night, we’ll be able to minimise disruption, and our highways crews will do everything possible to allow access for residents and businesses.”

Pedestrian access to the affected areas will be maintained throughout. Bus passengers are advised to check with their bus company on any disruption to service.

Details of all forthcoming roadworks are available on the East Sussex Highways website at www.eastsussexhighways.com
