Burwash Landscapers win People’s Choice Award at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019

31st May

The Artisan Garden called “Donkeys Matter”, sponsored by The Donkey Sanctuary charity and built by local garden landscapers Frogheath Landscapes from Burwash Weald, has won the coveted People’s Choice Award at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019 in London on Friday 24th May 2019. The garden also won an RHS Silver Medal.

This beautiful Donkey Sanctuary sponsored garden has acted as a focal point to celebrate the charity’s 50th anniversary and to showcase its international work. Designed by Christina Williams and Annie Prebensen, the ‘Donkeys Matter’ garden uses water as its central theme, demonstrating how owning a donkey means access to clean and fresh water for some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the world. This story of the not always easy bond between ‘man and beast’ has been brought to life with compassion and a hard message.

Incredibly, most of the construction took place at Frogheath’s Burwash Weald site – months before everything had to be transported to London for the build and the all important planting.

Stephen Moody, Director of Frogheath Landscapes commented: “We are thrilled that the garden won the People’s Choice Award. Our skilful team worked very hard to produce this lovely show garden, with 4.30am starts and late night finishes over a 10 day period leading up to the show opening. We even had two of the Sanctuary’s donkeys visiting the garden on Monday 20th May – they made quite an impression!”
