Changing face of Heathfield High Street
28th August

A new development to arrive on Heathfield High Street
A long established antiques shop is now being replaced with a new development by the Vivian Brown Discretional Settlement Trust. The Greenhouse is currently sited as a single story retail unit and will be replaced by a three story, four appartment, residential building with a ground floor Class E retail unit. Previous objections which had stalled the development were recently overturned in favour of the mixed use proposal. It had been rejected a year ago but it was decided the need for housing outweighed any objections – including the impact on number 77, which although acknowledged was not considered a reason to prevent the development. Also, questions over the possible instability because of proximity to an historic railway tunnel structure were allayed. Further information can be found on Wealden’s Planning Portal – WD/2024/1122/F.

New retailers opening soon
Earlier in the year the much loved Heathfield Ironmongers closed down and will be replaced by another charity shop to compete alongside a raft of other similar outlets. The outdoor accessories store Wanted on Voyage which closed at the end of last year is soon to be reinvented as another outpost of the Rushlake Green Village Stores. This will be a welcome addition to the High Street selling local provisions and complementing the Truffles Bakery, Cuculo Cheese & Wine and the butcher and greengrocer.
