Bodle Street Green is a lovely tranquil village with stunning views across the surrounding valleys. It had always been a quiet village until the iron industry took off  in East Sussex, when it found itself as the throughway between the Ashburnham  Forge and the Warbleton Forge. The oxen that pulled various iron implements back and forth from these forges did little for the roads in the small village.

The road to Windmill Hill did benefit from the presence of the forges as the slag resulting from the furnaces was used to fortify it to allow cannons to be pulled across the valley. But finally the iron forges both closed and the village returned to its more peaceful state. The village possesses a single round kiln oast house at Toll Farm and a small pub which is unique due to the white horse painted on its roof to highlight its name.
