Rushlake Green is a rural village dating back to the second half of the 16th Century when Dog Cottage, Pond Cottage and Old Allis were built. The village’s origins are rooted in the local iron industry. The local river still runs orange from ferrous deposits and as it passes the valley to the west the ancient hammer ponds can still be seen. Local place names such as ‘Furnace Field’ hint at the once busy ironworks where ships’ canons and anchors were made. The villages name dates back to Norman words that translate roughly to ‘a lake or stream surrounded by rushes’.

Rushlake Green is a thriving village with an amateur dramatic society that perform several times a year to a full audience. The Warbleton Brass Band also features many concerts throughout the year as well as providing entertainment at the annual Flower Show and other local fetes. Rushlake Green also features its very own Morris group which performs twice a year in celebration of the Summer and Winter Solstices, using a wide variety of different Morris styles to keep their audiences entertained.

Rushlake Green’s annual horticultural flower show is always a big success with a wide range of different competitions to enter, as well as races, stalls and a different display every year varying from working dogs to dancers to birds of prey.
