Deck the Halls – essential style for your festive home
This Winter trends are heavy on greenery and metallics, which translate easily into festive floral decorations for the home. Eucalyptus is king and brings a huge variety of leaf shapes which paired with its heavy resin and cleansing woody aroma are perfect when combined with pine.
The colour palette is : everything green, rose gold, copper, feathers, more green with splashes of jewel colours – red, purple, and lime. And always white with a hint of Scandinavia and transparence.
Shapes are informal, random and free flowing. Both natural looking yet with a loose construct to create an effortless style which is both generous and natural.
If you want to make your own wreath, then The Flower Workshop have the answer with their Wreath Bar – you can pick all the ingredients you need to create your own design from the frame, or base wreath and spruce branches to embellishments like orange, lime, cinnamon, cones, dried fruits and husks. Or if you want to attend a workshop the Cuckoo Flower Co run creative wreath events which are fun and the end result is entirely your creation.
Or if you don’t have the time then pop into your local florist with some ideas and get them to realise your creation. Most florists offer this service and will help you work out what works best for your needs.
Table centres can use a variety of bases to create any look from rustic to modern. It’s very easy to create your own centre with some Oasis and local greenery like berried ivy, holly, and any other greenery supplemented with roses for colour. However, most people don’t have the time and this is where your local florist can help out.
Pimp up your greenery with florists metallic sprays to achieve the metallic look. If you are doing a snow theme then fake snow and glitter sprays will add that special finish to your greenery.
A Winter home can be a mix of natural and imported fragrances. Scented candles add beautifully to the ambience of any room – we loved the exclusive candles from the Cuckoo Flower Co with names like ‘Christmas Fireside’ and ‘Spiced Orange’, their new collection comes in pretty pots and they offer a refill service. The Flower Workshop also stock St Eval candles with evocative names like Winter Berry, Figgy Pudding, Fig Tree and Orange & Cinnamon.
Vicky from the Flower Workshop in Heathfield recommends:
“Always re-cut your stems after purchase, change water every three days, wreaths last longer outside, and you can never have too many tealights or scented candles for a warm cosy atmosphere.”
