Dust off your tennis racquets and come to Cross in Hand’s open day
18th June
With tennis fever just around the corner Cross in Hand Tennis Club is holding an open afternoon and evening event on Friday 20th July in a bid to encourage more adults to discover the delights of tennis..
The event will run from 4 to 9pm and it’s a chance to meet members and join in the normal club night. There will be free food on offer supplied by members.
Cross in Hand Tennis Club is one of the premier clubs in the area and welcomes players of any standard from beginner to tournament level. You don’t even have to play tennis if you simply want to enjoy the social side of the club.
There are regular social events from monthly curry nights, to quiz nights and festive parties. Other benefits include the chance to enter a draw to win one the pairs of Wimbledon tickets allocated to the club.
Club Chairman Chris Groom said: “We’re really keen to showcase what our fantastic club has to offer. It’s not only about tennis, the club is a great place to socialise and make new friends. We are looking forward to seeing lots of new faces and an influx of new members. We’re hoping that all the talk of tennis as Eastbourne and Wimbledon approaches will inspire people to come and have a go.”
The club is open throughout the year with the two artificial clay courts offering a great all-weather surface. There are also four astro courts which are slightly faster. The flood lights on all the courts mean you can play into the evening even during winter. For young children there is a mini court which they can use before progressing to the normal size court.
The coaching programme is offered by South Coast Tennis. It includes a junior programme throughout the year and camps during the school holiday. Adult cardio tennis, which combines music with drills on Saturday mornings, is particularly popular.
For those with a competitive streak there are men’s and women’s teams as well as mixed doubles – with teams competing across the county. There is also an annual club tournament.
The clubhouse has a bar, kitchen and showering facilities as well as a table tennis table and a large television. The clubhouse has been ideally positioned for spectators to get a perfect view of all the courts from inside. When the weather is kind there is plenty of outdoor seating.
Estate Agent Rowland Gorringe is helping to promote the event with boards around the area.
