Fatal accident on A267 at Cross-in-Hand prompts renewed calls for review

A man has sadly died following a serious collision on the A267 at Cross in Hand. The incident was widely reported by passers by and on Heathfield Community social media. The Heathfield and Waldron Parish Council have voiced their intention to bring about change to the road safety.
“We have continued to push ESCC for safety improvements on the A267 and at the nearby junction with Cross in Hand High Street. We will continue to work hard to get road safety changes made.”
A sewage tanker and a Ford Focus were involved in the collision
The incident involving a sewage tanker travelling northbound, and a black Ford Focus travelling southbound, occurred close to the junction with Mayfield Flat around 7am on Tuesday 1 October.
The driver of the car – a 32-year-old man – was pronounced deceased at the scene. This can now be confirmed as his next of kin were contacted and informed, and they have received support from specialist officers.
Two passengers in the car – a 24-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man – were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A third passenger – a 22-year-old man – sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries, and was also taken to hospital.
All four occupants of the Ford Focus are from east London.
The lorry driver sustained minor injuries.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
The incident is under investigation and officers are urging anyone who saw what happened to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk quoting Operation Hales.
In particular, police are keen to hear from anyone who drove past but did not stop at the scene, who may have dash cam or mobile footage.
