Good news for 60+ as Covid vaccine appointments are now open

1st March

In recent weeks, many people in Heathfield must must have been wondering what was happening, as reports had come through that 60+ and in some cases slightly younger had been called for a vaccination over a week ago in surrounding areas. In East Sussex those 55 to 60+ have been called in Hastings and Hellingly for example, but there had been no news for this age range in Heathfield.

A week ago the Surgery in the High St Heathfield was unable to give any indication of dates for the 60-64 age cohort and suggested that vaccination supplies were unconfirmed. However, there was good news today as the surgery commented on Facebook that the 60+ are now being invited to come forward and book their vaccinations. The surgery itself is still handling the 16-64 cohort with underlying health conditions, so not able to offer the vaccine to this group 60-64; therefore people will be required to travel to another vaccination centre outside of the area. Eastbourne, Tonbridge and Brighton are the nearest centres. If you are aged 60 – 64 you don’t need a letter or invite you can follow this both the first and second vaccines now. Appointments are available from the 3rd of March at the time of writing this. If you don’t want to travel then you will need to wait until you are contacted by the surgery.

“With children returning to school shortly, as an older parent, I am particularly worried that I have not been vaccinated. I am aware of many of my friends the same age or younger who live elsewhere in East Sussex who have been vaccinated already,. Although, I was able to book mine today for later in the week, I am still concerned as it will take a few weeks to achieve any protection,” a mother from Heathfield commented.
