Heathfield photographer adds more credentials to her name
Award-winning Heathfield photographer Sarah Tate has added another accolade to her collection after being appointed as a judge for her industry’s prestigious awards.
Her confirmation as a judge followed on from last year’s news that Sarah had been named a Fellow of the industry’s most prestigious body – The Master Photographers’ Association.
Sarah has had her sights set on becoming a Fellow of the Master Photographers’ Association and a judge since she launched her new career in 2002.
So Sarah described it as ‘a dream come true’ when she was invited to be a judge in this year’s National and International Portrait Awards. The appointment followed a huge amount of time at judges’ training school including attending courses three to four times a year.
Sarah explains: “I had to travel to Darlington where, with four other judges, I judged 500 images over two days which was very interesting, challenging and a real honour.”
Only 20 percent of photographers have a Fellowship and Sarah is the only one in the industry to hold a Fellowship in newborn photography.
Initially entrants had to send in raw digital files and any photographers who scored over 80 were then asked to send in a print.
“In order to win you have to be at the top of your game and as judges we have to have a really critical eye. The photos can range from commercial, fine art, weddings, newborn, pets and architecture. You have to be able to judge all of them,” Sarah added.
Last year Sarah won the title Newborn Photographer of the Year – scoring the highest mark for 30 years. Here is a link to some of her award winning photos.
Sarah’s studio in Station Road is open again and COVID measures have been put in place to keep staff and customers safe. Newborn photography is very popular at the moment as is family photography and dog portraits.
