Heathfield Show recognised in Farming Awards

6th December

Organisers and everyone involved with the Heathfield Agricultural Show have been celebrating after being named Best Agriculture Show or Event at the 2019 Farming Awards.

Chairman Rita Dingwall said: “We had a great evening.  Thanks to everyone who has been involved with the Heathfield Show over the past 72 years. We were very fortunate to receive the Best Agricultural Show or Event award – I was absolutely blown away!”

The award comes as the show organisers start to gear up for the next show in around six months’ time on 23rd May 2020 – with trade stand bookings coming in steadily ahead of the priority trade stand booking deadline of 30th January.

This year saw the show donating over £19,000 to local charities and organisations. The donations are made to groups who have helped either during the show build up, on show day or on the clearing up of the ground after the show.  This year there were approximately 230 of these volunteers.

Approximately 19,000 people came through the gate on show day – a slight increase on the year before.

Organising the show is a huge feat and a credit to everyone involved. There are seven committees with a total of 67 volunteer committee members who attend over 30 committees during the show year.  Additionally, there are another 140 section stewards on show day helping with running the competitions.

In 2019 there were 210 trade stands, 20 concession stands, 30 traditional display stands and, combined with the WI tent, Education marquee, New Enterprise Zone and Poultry tent, accounted for over 300 displays on the showground on show day.

The 2020 Heathfield Agricultural Show will be the 73rd Show, the 60th consecutive show at Tottingworth Farm and will be held on Saturday 23rd May 2020.

Show Secretary Nicola Magill explains the theme of the forthcoming show:  “This year we will be focusing our efforts very much on reiterating sustainability, not only of the environment but also for future shows.

“There are a few remaining members of the society who remember attending the first show and many of our committee members have been involved in the organisation for more than 50 years, so another focus for 2020 is to create opportunities for a younger generation to become involved and have a say in the show organisation.

“If there is anybody who would like help with the vision to move the show forward and keep it ‘fresh’ for another 73 years please contact me.”

More than 120 people and companies play a vital role in sponsoring the Heathfield & District Agricultural Show each year. Sponsorship at the show provides a cost effective alternative to exhibition space and allows companies to promote awareness of their brand. Sponsorship opportunities range from special features which can include technical exhibits providing education for both farmers and general public, to arena events and displays and livestock classes.

There are wonderful facilities for corporate hospitality that give sponsors the opportunity to entertain clients, family and friends throughout the day.

There is also the opportunity for companies to receive, not only recognition while the event is taking place, but also their name advertised in the show literature. Free banner spaces will apply in some cases as well as the opportunity to present prizes in the rings.
