Heathfield Students ponder the eternal question ‘How can Boris Johnson be our Prime Minister?’

12th May

Heathfield Community College Year 10 students, who have applied to be prefects, attended an all day workshop to grow their public speaking skills. The workshop was led by Janie Shepherd from @SpeakersTrust www.speakerstrust.org

A large group enjoyed training and input and by the end ALL of them gave a short, self-penned speech to the rest of the group, the two outside judges and Heathfield staff.

Staff Leader Jo Taylor remarked “We were really impressed and proud”.

The winner who devises and delivers the most powerful speech hopes to represent the school at the regional final at The Old Market Theatre in Brighton this June.

“It was great to see such thoughtful, reflective and confident oracy from our students. They articulated their thoughts on subject matter all chosen by students and broad ranging including: Cultural and Institutional Racism, Living with Clinical Depression, Dementia, Reflections on Primary School and the thought provoking How can Boris Johnson be our Prime Minster?” commented Caroline Barlow, Head Teacher, Heathfield Community College.
