Heathfield youngsters invited to design MP’s Christmas card

Young artists from Heathfield and across Sussex Weald are being invited to get creative for MP Nusrat Ghani’s annual Christmas card competition.

This year, primary school children are being challenged to “Design a Christmas Jumper”, with the winning artwork set to feature on the front of the MP’s 2026 Christmas card.

The competition is open to primary school-aged children throughout the Sussex Weald constituency, including Heathfield, Mayfield and Five Ashes, Hailsham, Crowborough, East Hoathly and Wadhurst.

The winning design will be reproduced on Ms Ghani’s Christmas card, which is sent to hundreds of people locally and across the country, including His Majesty King Charles III.

Children can use pencils, felt tips, crayons, paint or another medium to create their design. Entries should be on A4 paper, in either portrait or landscape format, and must be the child’s own original work.

Ms Ghani, who has run the Christmas card competition since 2015, said she was always impressed by the creativity of children taking part.

She said: “The Christmas card competition has been a highlight of my seasonal activities since its first launch in 2015, and I am delighted to be launching it again this year.

“I am always impressed by the quality and creativity of the entries from all the participating schools across Sussex Weald.”

Each entry should have the child’s full name, school and class or year group written on the back.

The closing date is Wednesday 14 October 2026.

The details of entrants will be kept confidential, with information about the winners published only once consent has been given.
