Mystery of crochet ‘Queen’ is solved.

Throughout the past year the people of Heathfield have enjoyed the monthly surprise of creatively decorated post boxes. These adornments have featured Le Marche, Ukraine, Queen’s Jubilee and now her death. Often quirky and humourous the anonymous creator has worked in total secrecy to install the toppers during the night, to avoid their identity being discovered.

But, the secret is now out, and will most likely be featured on Meridian this week if not already. Local Heathfield childminder, Tracy Williams aged 43, is this unlikely champion of crochet and she spoke to us today to explain what is behind her passion for crochet.

“I love bringing joy to the community, it’s a little thing but the reactions are always positive and just bringing smiles and good cheer to people is so rewarding. My husband Mark has been a vital pair of hands helping me position the toppers in the dark, so I would like to thank him for his support. I have more planned for the future and I hope to go on bringing joy to the people of Heathfield.”

Tracy told us that she had been inspired by online groups who were creating similar pieces, and as a self taught crochet maker of eight years, she felt well placed to experiment and let her creativity flow. At the onset she was happy to be anonymous but after doing the TV interview she decided to put a face to her work.

Watch out around Heathfield in the coming months for new designs. And a little bird tells us there may be something special coming our way for The Coronation.
