Herstmonceux FC off to a flying start

25th June

Herstmonceux signalled they will be a force to be reckoned with this season by defeating Littlehampton FC by 3 goals to 1 at The Sportsfield on Saturday.

After absorbing some early pressure from the home side, Herstmonceux took the lead after eight minutes. Good work on the right wing from Ade Fermin culminated with a telling cross for ‘TC’ Johnston to slot the ball home 1-0.

The next period of play saw Herstmonceux apply some pressure of their own.  They were unlucky to see two goals ruled out for offside, before Charlie Shearing latched on to a through ball and lobbed the keeper.

Littlehampton forced their way back into the game with some fast counter-attacking movement and this was rewarded on 35 minutes with a goal to see the scoreline poised on 2-1 at the interval.

The second half was dominated by Herstmonceux although a combination of the heat and tired legs meant that they were only able to add one more goal. After having two efforts cancelled out for not crossing the line, a cross from Josh Sheldon was driven into the bottom corner by Callum Holles to wrap the game up after 75 minutes.

Manager Gaz Newton was satisfied with the performance from his fledgling team which saw a combination of new and old faces. We now look forward to the next match on Saturday 29th June against Mile Oak, kick off 3 pm at Lime Cross.
