Keep your kids busy with Summer Clubs and Activities

The Summer holidays can be a real challenge for parents. Some parents are looking to find ways of having their children cared for, while other parents are searching for ideas to keep their children occupied during the long holidays. Parents of younger children often want to find activities they can share with their kids, and older children want more independence. Getting a good balance is all about finding the right options.

We have put together some ideas for you.

South Coast Tennis – maybe your child is a budding Djokovic or Kerber and the recent Wimbledon competition has fired up their interest in tennis or perhaps they would just like to try tennis and multisport activities. South Coast Tennis are running a range of sporting holiday clubs across the Summer, based at either Cross in Hand Tennis Club or Cooden Beach Sports Club.

The activity caters for ages 5-16. South Coast Tennis (Cross In Hand LTC) has been delivering quality tennis coaching to schools and clubs in East Sussex since 1997. They have a team of experienced, professional coaches who can support your child with the development of their game both at the holiday camps and during term time in group squads and with individual coaching. Coaches are LTA trained and qualified, first aid trained and insured.

East Sussex Dance Studio

If your child loves to sing, dance and act? Here is a fun week of activities for them ending in a show and party?
This popular sell out annual Summer school is back Monday 20-24th August 10am-3pm £25 per day or a week for £100 (25% sibling discount)

They have professionals in from the West End and world wide tours sharing their experience, triple threat training, and it’s a great place to make new friends with others who share a passion for performing arts.

It all takes place in their beautiful facilities with mirrored studios and a play park in 5 acres of land, located in Mayfield.

Lucy’s Little Forest School delivers a huge range of woodland based activities for children and adults. Located at a magical site in the Wilderness Wood, Hadlow Down, East Sussex, this is where all the activities are based.

As Forest School facilitators, teachers and bushcrafters they are passionate about the woods. Whether you’re a Family, School, Adult, or Birthday Party group, Lucy’s Little Forest School has a variety of sessions suited to you. Most sessions in the holidays are for both parent/carer and child, although some allow you to stay on site (there is a Cafe) and leave your child to enjoy the activity nearby.

Here are some highlights of what’s on:

Bug Sculptures – Create a small clay sculpture of an animal of your choice with fantastic local artist-scientist, Lyn Merrick. Join in a bug hunt, make a model to take home and much more.

Superworm and Wild Things – Listen to the story of Super Worm….. Meet some of the animals that live in the wood. make a small wormery to take home and find a worm!

Firecraft & Fondue – Learning to make and start a fire and then enjoy dipping fruit and marshmallows into a chocolate fondue

A&B Dance School

A.B Stage School is a dance and performing arts school situated in Heathfield, High Street.

Offering classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern/Jazz, Lyrical, Pointe, Street, Aerial arts, Pole, Acrobatics, DanceFit, Performing arts, Singing, Strength and Flex and more. Their professional studio is fully equipped with barres, mirrors, a sprung floor, changing rooms and lots of specialised equipment.

They have a talented, experienced team of staff who can bring out the best in your child. They are running several fantastic weeks of holiday activities. These are split into:

Dance Week 30  July – 3 August focusing on jive, hip hop, ballet, latin, irish, jazz and street dance

Musical Theatre Week 6-10th August – children will work towards a fully costumed stage performance on the final day

Acrobatics Week 13 – 15 August – 3 days of at a cost of £60 – covering acrobatic skills and techniques and suitable for any ability

Activity Week August – 20 -24 August – arts & crafts, circus,  animal meet & greet, face painting and lots of fun and games

Days run from 10-4pm and cost £100 for the whole week unless specified otherwise

Herstmonceux Science Centre – For young scientists there are specific workshops aimed at age groups 6-8 years and 9-11 years. Please check the intended age group of your chosen workshop. The topics range from chemistry, space travel, planets, alien life, mechanics, electricity and forensics. But if you click on the link you can see the full list, availability and how to get tickets. Booking is essential and some workshops are already full
