Melina Joy Opticians and guests bid farewell to its eponymous founder

Melina Joy Opticians has been in Heathfield High Street since the spring of 1992 and has developed into the excellent, professional practice that it is today over the last 32 years. Melina owned the company solely for the first sixteen years after which David, Catriona and Shirley became shareholders and then Directors in 2015. With all four on board the company has gone from strength to strength and now employs three Optometrists, four Dispensing Opticians and three administrative staff.
A leaving party to remember
After long consideration and a lot of planning, Melina decided to retire from the business and worked her final day in October. Last Friday, the company threw her a fabulous retirement do at the Union Church Hall. With Prosecco flowing and beautiful hors d’oevres provided by Food Glorious Food, over one hundred and fifty people attended, to wish her well. At one point there was a queue outside the door!
Melina was deeply touched by all of the kind words and wishes to thank all those who attended, sent thoughtful cards and wonderful gifts:
“Your support and friendship have meant a great deal to me. Here’s to the next chapter, with all my gratitude for the incredible journey we’ve shared!”
Introducing James Miller
It was also a great opportunity for people to meet the new staff member – James Miller, a highly skilled optometrist with an impressive 19 years of experience in the field. His background is predominantly in independent opticians, which aligns perfectly with MJO’s patient-first approach. His former employers have given glowing recommendations, and without prompting, local consultants have shared kind words about his professionalism and dedication to patient care.
Melina Joy Opticians is continuing with no immediate plans to change anything. David and Catriona can still be found in the middle of the High Street and MJO are still open Monday to Friday 8.30am – 5.30pm and Saturday 8.30 – 1.15pm. 01435 868181
