Richard Field has gathered what he describes as an ‘incredible’ collection of sculptures and art for the grand opening of Melford Gallery on Friday 21st August. For more details see our What’s On page.

Many of the works are by local artists including Joanna Allen from Hadlow Down and Holly Hickmore from Hampshire. There are also two local painters exhibiting.

Richard explains: “It will be a private gallery and people will need to book. We will hold exhibitions several times a year and I am planning to have a wide range of garden sculptures. It’s very exciting as the interest in the gallery has snowballed and we have some great events planned.”

Alongside the permanent collections, Melford Gallery will host regular exhibitions with new and established artists as well as ‘arts’ events in the boutique theatre and gallery space.  The gallery will works alongside The Arts Portfolio C.I.C. to organise community workshops, art fairs and charitable events raising money for youth opportunities in the arts.

From Friday 21st August to 16th September a sculpture exhibition will feature a stunning display of abstract garden sculpture in stone and metal.

On Saturday 29th August aerial hoop performance artist Naomi Wood will take centre stage. There will be afternoon tea from The Pink Cabbage and complimentary Prosecco available. Guests are welcome to use session to figure draw or to just enjoy the performance.

From Friday 4th to Sunday 6th September there will be contemporary ballet from the emerging dancer Tilliana Greenwood.  Dance will be in the marquee and live music will also be performed in the gallery by Sussex young people.

Melford Gallery celebrates new and up and coming artists from around the world. While the focus is primarily sculpture, Richard will always host guest painters and artists alongside the sculpture.

“The long-term plan is to have a space to support vulnerable people and hold workshops, performances, dance events and music recitals,” Richard added.
