Two Tails Taproom edges closer to opening on Heathfield High Street
Heathfield could soon be home to its first micropub after Two Tails Taproom moved a step closer to opening at 37 High Street, which was previously home to an independent womenswear boutique.
The team behind Two Tails – Deena & Colin Gilham, received a welcome boost last week when Heathfield & Waldron Parish Council gave its support to their change of use and licensing applications. Both applications were discussed at Monday’s Planning & Highways Committee meeting, where the Two Tails team were invited to give a short presentation.
A major part of that presentation focused on the strong level of local support already shown for the plans. At the time of the meeting, 113 positive comments had been submitted in favour of the planning application — a number which has since risen to 145. Two Tails taproom has been running pop ups in the town for quite a while now and the support and popularity of the venture is already evident.
The committee, chaired by Councillor Pat Coffey, debated the applications before supporting both. According to the meeting minutes, members “welcomed the application and considered it to be a positive addition to the town,” adding that they felt it would bring “significant benefits to local businesses, the community, and the wider local economy.”
Although final approval is still needed, the parish council’s support marks an important milestone for the independent business.
If approved, Two Tails Taproom would become Heathfield’s and Wealden’s first micropub, offering a welcoming space for residents to enjoy locally sourced drinks and discover a range of producers from across the area.
The team said they were hugely grateful to everyone who had taken the time to support the application.
“The thought of opening Heathfield’s and Wealden’s first micropub, and being able to connect with local people every week while showcasing an incredible range of local producers, gives us such a buzz,” they said. “We honestly can’t wait.”
With growing public support and backing from the parish council, Two Tails Taproom is now edging closer to creating a new social hub on Heathfield High Street — one that could bring fresh energy, footfall and community spirit to the town centre.
Further updates are expected once the final decision has been made.
