New health and wellbeing plan approved for Wealden residents
A new three-year plan aimed at helping people across Wealden live healthier, more active and better-connected lives has been approved by Wealden District Council.
The council’s Cabinet has backed the Health and Wellbeing Strategy for 2026 to 2029, which sets out how the authority plans to work with residents, community groups and local partners to improve health and reduce inequalities.
The strategy follows a public consultation which attracted more than 900 responses and builds on the council’s previous work to support healthier communities.
Its four main priorities are mental health and resilience; tackling loneliness and social isolation; helping people make positive health choices; and supporting active communities, environments and facilities.
The council says the aim is to make it easier for residents of all ages to access support, find local services and take part in activities that can improve physical and mental wellbeing.
As part of the work, the Healthy Wealden website has also been redesigned.
The updated site, which went live on June 8, is intended to be a simple online hub where residents can find advice, information about local services and opportunities to get involved in health and wellbeing activities.
Councillor Kelvin Williams, Alliance for Wealden Liberal Democrat and lead councillor for Public Health and Asset Management, said the strategy showed the council’s commitment to supporting residents.
He said: “This strategy shows residents that we are committed to providing vital services to support and improve health and wellbeing.
“The overarching ambition of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy is to reduce health inequalities through a focus on prevention, and our goal is to make it as easy as possible for people of all ages to improve their health and wellbeing and to create affordable, accessible and inclusive opportunities for everyone to lead healthier, happier lives.”
The strategy will guide the council’s work with partners and communities over the next three years.
Residents can visit the new Healthy Wealden website at www.healthywealden.co.uk or find more information about the strategy through Wealden District Council’s website.
