Shop Well at Heathfield & Waldron Markets

Over the past year, farmers’ markets and antique/craft fairs have grown in popularity across Wealden as people re-discover this timeless way of shopping.

Here, we are fortunate to have two local markets: Heathfield Farmers’ Market on the third Saturday of every month; and Waldron Community Market on the second Thursday of each month.

Love Local

One of the best things about embracing markets and the culture they bring with them is the connection they engender between people and places.

A visit to a market is a fantastic way to meet people, connect with neighbours and pick up a treat for supper or the weekend!

And there is nothing as satisfying as finding the ideal gift for a loved one or friend, knowing it is lovingly made and a one-off item.  As well as local food and drink, you’ll discover creative (and sometimes curious) items including original art, jewellery and needlecraft.

Fresh, fabulous and good for the environment

Another obvious benefit of visiting Heathfield Farmers’ market and Waldron Community Market is getting delicious fresh produce at a fair price. Buying locally is good for the environment too, as you can normally find delicious, fresh and seasonal produce, grown in close proximity to our town and local Sussex specialities not available elsewhere.

Our markets are also places where traditional Sussex crafts and artisan trades are kept alive.  You may even learn about local history too from people with an interesting tale to tell!

In French culture, markets have been a staple of life throughout time, attracting locals and visitors alike.  It is great to see their rising popularity here too, creating a welcome source of income for our farmers, producers and artisan makers. Infact, Heathfield has its own French inspired market Le Marché which is held on the August Bank Holiday each year. Le Marché has a mix of local and French traders, live music, food and drink and the local shops usually stay open to support the occasion.

Wealden District Council is pro-actively working with local market co-ordinators to share best practice across the District via the ‘Shop and Dine Well in Wealden’ campaign.
