Thomas Plummer announced as winner

A talented Year 4 pupil from Blackboys Church of England Primary School is spreading festive cheer far beyond Sussex Weald this Christmas after winning Nusrat Ghani MP’s annual Christmas card design competition.

Thomas Plummer was announced as the winner of the 2025 competition, which invited primary school pupils from across the Sussex Weald constituency to create an original design based on the theme “Favourite Part of Christmas Day.” His colourful and imaginative artwork, featuring cheerful Christmas elves, has now been chosen to appear on the front of the MP’s official Christmas card.

Each year, the competition attracts hundreds of entries from local schools, and 2025 was no exception. After careful consideration, Nusrat Ghani selected Thomas’ design as the standout entry, praising its creativity and festive spirit.

A card fit for the King

The winning card is being delivered to nearly 2,000 recipients, including Sussex Weald residents, local businesses, schools, care homes, pubs, post offices and charities. Copies are also being sent to recipients across the UK – and even as far as His Majesty King Charles III.

Speaking about the competition, Nusrat Ghani MP said:
“The Christmas competition has been a highlight of my seasonal activities since its first launch in 2015 and I am always impressed by the creativity of the entries. A huge thank you and well done to all Sussex Weald pupils who entered this year, and to their parents and teachers who took the time to take part with their class. Choosing the winner is always an incredibly difficult task, but it was Thomas’ colourful artwork that stood out for me.”

She added that the card featuring Thomas’ design is now making its way to recipients across the constituency, nationwide and abroad.

A shining light on the creativity of local children

Thomas’ success has been warmly celebrated by staff and pupils at Blackboys Church of England Primary School, with his achievement shining a light on the creativity of local children and the strong community spirit across Sussex Weald.

The annual Christmas card competition, now in its tenth year, continues to be a festive tradition that brings together schools, families and the wider community – and this year, a young artist from Blackboys is at the heart of it.
