The Great Out-tours celebrate selection as a finalist in the Rural Business Awards Final 2019

23rd July

Horam based, business The Great Out-tours has been shortlisted in two categories of the prestigious Rural Business Awards 2019/20: South East Best Rural Professional Services Business and the Best Rural Recreational or Outdoor Pursuits Business categories of the Rural Business Awards 2019/20.

“It is thrilling to be selected as a finalist for the South East region, just to get this far is recognition for how far the business has come since I started it in 2011, and how hard everyone has worked. The business has brought alive the wonders of the outdoors to many, including countless children through its after school clubs, adults with learning difficulties through the care home programme, and the many visitors to the Woodside Education Centre in Horam. Obviously, it would be the icing on the cake if we win and go on to the national final!” commented, John Brooksbank, Founder – The Great Out-tours.

One of the first franchisees graduating in early 2019

Many school children in East Sussex have enjoyed the after school clubs created by John aka Farmer John in his ever popular after school clubs; children attend in all weathers and enthusiastically embrace land based experiences in which they learn about nature, craft woodcraft items, make foraged food like elderflower cordial and experience up close contact with lambs and goats to name a few.

So successful has the business been, that The Great Out-tours has developed a formal syllabus called ‘The Four Seasons Activity Programme’ and this is now being rolled out as a franchise across the UK. The first cohort of franchisees graduated earlier this year, and are currently building successful businesses in Nottingham, Bristol, North Somerset and the Ashdown Forest. John is currently working through with the next batch of franchisee hopefuls.

Regional winners will be announced for the South East Regional Final at an awards ceremony on Friday 18 October 2019 at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge. Those selected will go on to compete in the national finals later in the year.
