Two men arrested following Hellingly helicopter search
Residents in the Hellingly area were alarmed at around 5pm yesterday when a helicopter was seen hovering overhead for around 10 minutes. There were also reports of multiple police vehicles travelling down Mill Lane around the same time.
Sussex Police say they are currently investigating the discovery on Tuesday afternoon (28 January) of vehicles and spare parts believed to have been stolen and stored in an industrial unit at Hellingly, near Hailsham.
A 28-year-old man from Hailsham and a 25-year-old man from Stone Cross, near Pevensey, have each been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. At this time (Wed 09:15) both remain in custody. No further details are available at this stage.
One Hellingly resident who moved to the area from South London a few years ago said the Police activity would have been an everyday occurrence where she used to live but she didn’t expect it in Hellingly. On Sunday there was a helicopter in the same area after a jewellery shop in Eastbourne was raided and the thieves are thought to have used the The Cuckoo Trail as an escape route.
