Wealden Crematorium Open Day attracts a crowd
More than 350 people attended an open day at Wealden Crematorium, Horam – at the weekend. The event on Saturday 18 September was an opportunity for local people and anyone curious to see inside the building and around the grounds. The Wealden Creamtorium open day was attended by Wealden District Council chairman Councillor Ron Reed, who is pictured above with staff on the day.
Opened in 2019, the state-of-the-art crematorium is set in 25 acres of rural countryside, meadows, woodland and pastures on the A267 just south of Horam. The Heathfield News had a unique, behind the scenes visit around that time and carried a detailled report on the building and grounds.
Exerpt from the 2019 earlier article:
“The facility’s green credentials are one of the things that sets it apart from other crematoria. Around 8,000 trees are being planted that are mixed UK species. There are also woodland walks, bat boxes and bird boxes on the site and the use of pesticides is strictly limited.
The Council’s Corporate Plan includes a commitment to ‘generate sustainable sources of income to reinvest in local priorities’. The development of this new crematorium forms part of that commitment.“
