YOUNG AT HEART TO CELEBRATE VE DAY

Young At Heart is an intergenerational community interest company based at Heathfield Park Cricket Club. Designed to combat loneliness and isolation of senior members of the local community, what makes them unique is the social interaction between pre-school and primary aged children with the elderly.

Members can attend as much or as little as they like, but Young At Heart are open three days a week, every week. A full day of craft, activities, lunch, tea and cake is always on the cards.

Twice a month, members are taken by the Young At Heart Team to Union Church in Heathfield, where they use the hall for bingo, tea dance and cake. Thursday 1st May is a special visit, to celebrate VE Day.

Young At Heart have arranged an itinerary of wartime related activities and non-members over 60 are welcome to join, thanks to a donation from a local supporter, which will subsidise the event.

Arrive for a 12:30pm lunch of fish and chips, followed by a Dig For Victory with Frogheath Landscapes, tea dancing with Barry Randall and Beata and a visit from the Pearly Queen whilst memories and stories from wartime are shared. Two local primary schools will be bringing about a dozen children each, to learn about life during the war and engage with members.

The whole afternoon will cost non-members just £20, so come and see what they are all about.

New members are always welcome to Young At Heart, so if you can’t join them for VE Day celebrations, do contact their Manager Rachel, to discuss a trial day.
