Wine Festival launches, Saturday 1st June 2019 at Hidden Spring, Horam
It’s all go at Hidden Spring Vineyard, Horam, East Sussex. Not only have they just been awarded a silver medal at the 2019 International Wine Challenge for their Bacchus (2017); but they are hosting the first Sussex Weald Festival of Wine on Saturday, June 1st. Five outstanding Sussex vineyards have united to create a FESTIVAL OF WINE a chance to enjoy English wine and to celebrate the launch of a new group – Vineyards of the Sussex Weald. Beacon Down, Fox & Fox, Hidden Spring, Off The Line and Tickerage are the five award winning producers involved, they are all located in the Sussex Weald, one of the best locations in England for making sparkling and still white and rosé wines. The area has seen a remarkable growth in vineyards and wineries over the last decade with a corresponding growth in wine production and local and national interest. The event is hosted at Hidden Spring this year, with the plan for other vineyards in the group to host the event in future years. This year’s event includes live music, a DJ, an ice cream and a pizza van providing food and soft drinks, in addition to the opportunity to enjoy a stunning vineyard location, the perfect place to sample local wines and meet the wine makers who are taking English wines to new levels.

Hidden Spring Vineyard
Silver medal winner at the 2019 International Wine Challenge for its Bacchus (2017), receiving 91 points, the highest score of any Bacchus wine in the competition. The IWC is a rigorous competition with two weeks of blind-tasting of wines from nearly 50 countries, by a panel of 400 international wine experts from 38 countries.
Judges’ tasting notes highlighted: “Peach, melon and passion fruit with zesty lemon. Clean and refreshing with some weight leading to citrus and tropical fruits on the finish.” The Bacchus (2017) is made from 100% Bacchus grapes. The wine is part barrel fermented, and aged on the lees for four months, last week it was also awarded the Decanter 2019 Bronze medal to add to the Silver! Taste this amazing wine and their 2018 vintages at the event.

Off the Line Vineyard
Off The Line Vineyard is a unique English wine producer based in Hellingly, East Sussex. It’s the vision of the owners, Kristina Studzinski and Ann-Marie Tynan whose shared passion for wine led them to setting up a vineyard and winery. Only red grapes are grown and the focus is on the production of premium still rosé. Their grapes are grown on the estate and the wine making process takes place in their new onsite state of the art winery. They will be showcasing their three styles of award winning rosés including the superb 2018 vintages.
Beacon Down Vineyard
Beacon Down vineyard occupies around 18 acres in the beautiful High Weald near Heathfield in East Sussex in England.A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the vineyard is set on gentle South East facing slopes with stunning views over to Eastbourne and the South Downs. Two fields on the site were planted with nearly 10,000 vines in May 2015 and have thrived on the sandstone slopes and Sussex sunshine.
Their award winning wine will be available to taste or buy at the Vineyards of the Sussex Weald event.
Tickerage from Blackboys Vineyard
Blackboys Vineyard in East Sussex is a two hectare vineyard comprising: 45% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. 17 different combinations of varietal, clone and root stock are planted, each of which were carefully researched in an attempt to bring the required complexity to their wines from a comparatively small scale planting. The old adage says ‘small and perfectly formed’ – their vineyard’s size and location means they can personally carry out all the work. This was crucial for the owners in order to be totally in control of the development of the vines.
It is a 24/7 family run operation, allowing the attention to detail which impacts directly on the high quality and personally finished wines. Their sparkling wines will be available to taste and buy at the Vineyards of the Sussex Weald event on Saturday 1st June 2019.
Fox & Fox
Fox & Fox are a Boutique Grower Producer of English Sparkling wines, cultivating 30 acres of classic champagne varieties. Their Vineyards sit either side of the ancient hilltop village of Mayfield, amongst the rolling hills, woodlands and deep-cut ghylls of the Sussex High Weald. They are surrounded by bluebell woods in springtime and over-flown by Buzzards, Red Kites and other hawks in summer. They are an evocation of this unique Sussex countryside at its best. Their delicious sparkling wines will be available to taste and buy at the Vineyards of the Sussex Weald event.
