Horizontal rain and all that a coastal town can throw at you in the bad weather department, did not dint the enthusiasm of apprentices, businesses and training providers at this year’s 2021 Sussex Apprenticeship Awards. The Brighton Hilton Metropole was the setting for the awards dinner and ceremony. The awards were created to recognize the outstanding achievements of apprentices in a variety of work settings, the commitment and support given by businesses and the dedication of training providers and mentors.

Winner of Mentor of the Year at the 2021 Sussex Apprenticeship Awards

Mentor of the Year at the 2021 Sussex Apprenticeship Awards was won by Heathfield resident and co-founder of The Heathfield News – Anna White, who was nominated by her apprentice Lucy Salvage (Wealden Council ex-apprentice) for providing incredible professional support during lockdown and being there to provide additional emotional support throughout her apprenticeship. Lucy credited this support as a reason she gained a distinction in her PRCA Public Relations Apprenticeship.

Anna said: “It’s an amazing privilege to win this and it’s also an amazing privilege to be a mentor of apprentices, I have thoroughly enjoyed my three years.

” I would like to thank Lucy Savage, my ex-apprentice, who nominated me without me knowing. I would also like to thank the PRCA [Public Relations and Communications Association], who are the training providers I work with, and also Creative Process Digital.

” Finally, I would like to thank all the great apprentices out there and all the fantastic employers, without you I wouldn’t have a job.”
