Work experience is a win-win for us and Anna
We often receive requests from students wanting work experience and we are always delighted to help if we can – it’s our way of ‘giving back’ to the community and helping young people embark on their careers. Our recent trainee was a delight and we know she is going to be a successful journalist. We asked Anna to write a piece about her experience with The Heathfield News.
My name is Anna Parkinson and I am currently going into my second year studying Journalism BA (Hons) at the University of Lincoln.
During the summer, I have been on a work experience placement at The Heathfield News. During this time, I have been given the opportunity to write stories and features for the website. Not only this, I have been trusted to regularly update the What’s On section of the website too.
Being part of the team here at The Heathfield News has taught me a lot. Being able to conduct phone interviews, write stories and be able to adapt my style of writing to suit the subject matter of each story has been challenging, but been even more rewarding.
Working alongside Suzi and Anna has been wonderful, I cannot thank them enough for giving me this opportunity and for their support.
Journalism is all about changeability, confidence and telling the reader/viewer/listener what is going on in their area. I’ve learnt more of the required skills to be able to do this successfully during my time working here.
I would highly encourage anybody who may be thinking about doing work experience to do it at The Heathfield News. Being part of the team is lovely and there is always something new and exciting to get involved in.
