Ashdown Radio plans expansion

Many people are familiar with Ashdown Radio, but Heathfield residents don’t get a reliable reception for this popular local radio station. Ashdown Radio had hoped to increase the power at their Crowborough transmission site so it can be heard in Heathfield and surrounds back in 2023. However, it wasn’t viable (largely due to the terrain of the area) and OFCOM essentially advised to find a location for a transmitter site in Heathfield.

Application to site a new transmitter in Heathfield

Ashdown Radio submitted a fresh proposal to site a new transmitter in Heathfield which will extend range to the town and Burwash, Horam, Cross in Hand and Mayfield. See link below.

It can take OFCOM a number of months to make a final decision (this request was submitted late November), if they then approve the request, technical work will need to be scoped so a confirmed date will be sometime in the future.

Ashdown Radio’s Programme Director, Ryan Millns said:

“Since our launch in 2022, we have proven how vital it is to serve the area of East Sussex. Along with playing the best mix of music from the 80s, 90s and Now, we also provide a bespoke local news service and talk about events and issues that matter to you…Something that the National radio stations are unable to do. We are very much looking forward to expanding our service to the residents of Heathfield and the surrounding area”

This extension will be a great communication resource and a useful way for Heathfield businesses to promote their activities to Heathfield and further afield to a wider area covered by Ashdown Radio’s catchment. We will keep readers updated when we know more about the confirmed timescale for the extended transmission.
