Success for Cross in Hand Tennis Club’s junior doubles duo

Jack White (15) and Max Routlege (14) are both talented young tennis players who also play together as a doubles duo. They are keen members of Cross in Hand Tennis Club near Heathfield, East Sussex. Two recent tournaments saw them rack up multiple successes. First in the Junior Benenden Tennis Tournament, which celebrated its 85th year this year, and where they won the U18 Boys Doubles Trophy. Max also went on to win the Mixed Doubles with his partner and Jack was runner up with his.

It is a friendly but competitive tournament run by volunteers who rely on parents’ help on the day. All proceeds go to predominantly local or childrens charities, with thousands of pounds being raised every year. There is always a wonderful atmosphere with the children socialising and having fun, playing tennis, making purchases at the tea tent and excitedly winning their raffle prizes. The fantastic facilities at Benenden School are made available by the Headmistress of the school.
Rye Lawn Tennis Tournament
The boys went on to compete this week at Rye Lawn Tennis Tournament and reached the U18 Boys Doubles finals, where, after a close match they finished as runners up. They also both won their singles groups but were knocked out in the quarter finals of the U18 Singles.
Rye Lawn Tennis Tournament is a three day event taking place at this beautiful club based beside the river in Rye. Their immaculate grass courts give the aspiring young players a ‘mini Wimbledon’ experience. Competition is tough and opponents play across all ages. The competition is organised to a very high standard and spectators enjoy not only the tennis but a bar and catering for the day.

Cross in Hand Tennis Club is a friendly club with something for everyone. The club is located just outside Heathfield and has five clay courts and one singles hard court. Elevate Tennis Coaching is located at the club offering coaching for groups and individuals and junior tennis camps during the holidays.
