Eddie the Eagle delights Cranwell clients at vineyard lunch event
Who doesn’t love a story of utter endurance, determination and dedication at Christmas time? Well, that is exactly what clients of Cranwell Wealth Solutions were treated to this festive season during a delicious lunch hosted at the beautiful Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking, where the inspirational Michael Edwards (Eddie the Eagle Edwards) gave a speech to all in the room.
During the event, Cranwell Wealth Solutions, a local Uckfield-based wealth management company also hosted clients with fantastic advice from industry professionals. Gavin McGhee, a St James’s Place Wealth Management Consultant, discussed issues surrounding investing, while Richard Tutill, a Business Development Manager at WPA Health Insurance, discussed the benefits and protection that Private Medical Insurance can provide. All in all, advice that is very much needed in these times of uncertainty.
But perhaps the most uplifting part of the event was the inspirational talk by Eddie the Eagle Edwards. The ski jumper originally rose to fame through his hard work and sheer tenacity back in the eighties. In 1988 he became the first competitor since 1928 to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. Eddie was a gifted downhill skier yet, despite his best efforts, he failed to make Team GB. While many would have turned to a different vocation, Eddie decided this was just the start and embarked on one of the most exciting journeys in the history of British athletics.
Eddie regaled the audience with the trials and tribulations he encountered such as not having the finances, necessary equipment or even a coach to realise his ambition. However, despite these setbacks and being the underdog, his sheer determination and hard work saw him achieve his dream of competing in the Olympics.
A fantastic day was had by all, and the talks were very well received with one audience member offering: “Congratulations on a great day. I really enjoyed all of the speakers, Gavin McGhee was excellent – informative, interesting and funny (he was also good company on our table at lunch) and Eddie was just a delight. Well done to you and the team” while another quipped “Where can I learn to ski jump?!”
Cranwell Wealth Solutions plans to make this lunch an annual affair as a thank you to all of their loyal clients. We can’t wait to see who they invite next year to delight, advise and inspire the audience.
