Show bounces back after vandalism and attracts bumper crowd
The Heathfield & District Agricultural Show proved once again that it is one of the most popular events in the local calendar and a great way for businesses and livestock owners to show off their talents and skills.
The volunteer organisers of the show were delighted with the support they received for the 2019 Show which say more than 18,500 visitors flocking to the showground on Saturday 25th May to show their solidarity after the terrible attack of vandalism.
Show Secretary Nicola McGill said: “I don’t think I had ever appreciated how much local support the show has – it was as if the local community had been personally violated by the attack on our show marquees.
“People showed their support by voting with their feet and visiting the show this year, meaning our numbers through the gates were well up on previous years.
“The showground looked fantastic and the Unsworth White team did a marvellous job getting the showground ready and everything looked resplendent on Friday night before show day.”
The Monster Trucks are always a popular attraction with crowds lining the main ring three deep to watch a display of the sheer might of these vehicles crushing anything in their path. To contrast this, the easy manoeuvring of Shetland Ponies in their own mini Grand National was a much more peaceful display to watch, but equally entertaining. Combined with the Inter Hunt Relay, the Sheep Show and sheep racing, not to mention terrier racing and all the livestock and horse competitions meant there was much to see and do around the showground for all the visitors at no extra cost.
The results for all the livestock competitions as well as the trade stand judging and flower show results are available here.
The Show Society donates all surplus money raised, after costs have been deducted, to local good causes, charities and organisations. If you think your group maybe eligible for a donation please contact the Show Secretary Secretary@heathfieldshow.org outlining what the money will be used for and your application will be considered.
