Lucy’s Little Forest School delivers a huge range of woodland based activities for children and adults. Located at a magical site in the Wilderness Wood, Hadlow Down, East Sussex, this is where all the activities are based.
As Forest School facilitators, teachers and bushcrafters they are passionate about the woods. Whether you’re a Family, School, Adult, or Birthday Party group, Lucy’s Little Forest School has a variety of sessions suited to you. Most sessions in the holidays are for both parent/carer and child, although some allow you to stay on site (there is a Cafe) and leave your child to enjoy the activity nearby.
Here are some highlights of what’s on:
Den Building for all the family – Join Mel and learn how to build a shelter than can withstand wind and rain as well as make it as camouflaged as you possibly can using natural materials we forage for in the wilderness. We will venture into the wood and get into teams and build a shelter to be proud of!
Bug Hunting – Come and create a small clay sculpture of an animal of your choice with fantastic Forest School Jack
Woodland Baking – Join us to make traditional damper bread in the wild with Mel your leader! As the bake off begins mixing and matching an array of ingredients for a taste sensation. Once we are all ready and have packed up all the baking equipment we will go into the wood and find a good spot to collect materials for a fire, and learn how to make a fire and cook dampers over the fire on a hazel/sweet chestnut stick.
Firecraft & Fondue – Learning to make and start a fire and then enjoy dipping fruit and marshmallows into a chocolate fondue

Herstmonceux Science Centre – Bringing Science and Creativity to Life!
Holiday fun for children aged 6-8 years and 9-11 years. In addition to our daily activities, during the local school holidays we also offer fantastic workshops for children which are a great way to have fun and learn at the same time. They are fully interactive; children are totally immersed in carrying out experiments or making and creating (depending on the type of workshop). Many of the workshops involve an element of ‘Make and Take’ projects when the children are able to take what they have made home.
Specific workshops are aimed at age groups 6-8 years and 9-11 years. Please check the intended age group of your chosen workshop.
The workshops are intended for children only and we encourage adults to leave their children with us unless they have additional needs and require extra help and support. All our staff and volunteers are checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and our adult to child ratio ensures sufficient support throughout the workshop.
Workshops include: Cool Chemistry, The Chemistry Lab, Astronaut Academy, Crime Detectives, Man on the Moon, Alien Life, Spectacular Life and Colour, Earth and Beyond, Rocket Science, Red Planet Blue Planet and 3D Animation.
