Lakedown taproom with sublime views opening in Burwash

24th August

Lakedown offers stunning views in a relaxing environment

Tucked away in an idyllic corner of Burwash lies the Lakedown Taproom. Housed in the fisherman’s lodge with views extending over the lakes you will find the perfect spot to enjoy a range of delicious ales from Lakedown Brewing Company, their microbrewery. There is space both indoors and out, and an online booking system to ensure you aren’t disappointed. The new venture opens this Friday 27 August and opening hours are 12-8pm Wednesday to Sunday in the Summer and 12-6pm in the Winter.

The four lakes at Lakedown Fishery and the Fisherman’s Lodge were built by Roger Daltrey at the height of The Who’s rock and roll fame in the 70s.  A relaxing antithesis to the hectic touring life that Roger was living. Now the family are sharing this special place with anyone who wants to enjoy good beer and the stunning view across the spring-fed lakes. The lodge has been converted to a taproom with a very personal touch, it is a special place away from any noise and traffic.

Lakedown Brewing Company was born between the lockdowns of 2020 by brothers in law, Chris Rule, Des Murphy and Jamie Daltrey. Jamie had spent the past 2 years breathing life back into the famous Sussex trout fishery, and the desire to diversify the family farm was raised over a beer by the lakes. After dreaming up the idea of a brewery and tap room, they met up with Steve Keegan at a neighbouring brewery and their plan started to take shape. Jamie and the team brew Lakedown beers with Steve in Uckfield, East Sussex and their blend of classic English ales and modern craft beers have been an instant hit.

The taproom will serve exclusively Lakedown Brewing Co beers (and some soft drinks) which you can drink on the banks of the main lake.

Five stunning beers to enjoy

English Pale Ale with a beautiful label inspired by the ripples of water and nature – It’s a modern Pale, loaded with English Cascade & Ernest then dry hopped for an aromatic finish. Lakedown created this beer to blend the best of British with American style.

This really is the place to kick back and enjoy an English Pale Ale, German Pilsner, American Pale Ale, Best Bitter or a New England IPA. Drinks are served in halves or full pints and accompanied by bar snacks. You can also purchase beer for takeaway and order online for delivery.

Best Bitter -brimming with biscuity malts. It’s a proper best, using UK Pioneer, cascade and Jester along with local malts and yeast. Lakedown blend 7 of the best grains to make their Best Bitter, the best it can be.
The Pilsner style sits right at the top of their list of favourite lagers. Lakedown’s is a classic Pilsner; full of the finest Saaz hops, German malts and the best Bavarian lager yeast. They ferment it slow and steady to give it a beautifully refreshing and perfectly crisp finish.
The Lakedown New England IPA is crammed full of the finest Citra, Mosaic and Centennial hops. Lakedown created this beer to showcase its wonderfully tropical aroma and punchy, fruity flavour. Contains Gluten
The Lakedown American Pale Ale is packed full of the finest Cascade, Chinook and Citra hops. Easy drinking sip after sip of west coast sunshine. Gluten Free.

The Lakedown Tap Room opens it doors to the public on Fri 27th August and entrance is firmly on a bookings only basis, limiting the footfall to the lakes so that the tranquillity can be enjoyed by the fishermen, fish and beer drinkers to the full.
