Mayfield entrepreneur reaches finals of national awards
The founder of a Mayfield start up is celebrating after reaching the finals of the National Best New Business Awards.
Gemma Creasey launched Oval Deene Ltd, a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom specialist recruitment company, in January 2017.
Oval Deane has reached the finals of three different categories: Business of the Year; Business Person of the Year and Business Women of the Year.
The awards ceremony takes place on Friday 29th June at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in Kensington, SW London. There will be more than 400 attendees.
Director and mum of five Gemma explained: “I am so excited to be a finalist in the National New Best Business Awards which shows my achievement for starting up my business from home from scratch and achieving results that exceeded my expectations massively. Lots of hard work, sleepless nights, blood, sweat and tears have gone into making it a success. It took a huge amount of courage to take the step into staring my own business but it was the best thing I’ve ever done and I have never looked back.
“I have delivered excellent customer service and built some fantastic relationships, while changing other people’s lives finding them their dream jobs.”
Gemma started Oval Deene from home and now works with some of the biggest brands in the UK and internationally – and also several independents locally and nationwide.
She has achieved huge success in the first year, all while raising a large young family and working two jobs. Gemma opened a new office at Christmas and took on her first employee in January this year.
It was while on maternity leave with her daughter that Gemma made the decision to use her skills and knowledge in the recruitment sector to launch her own specialist firm in a market where she saw a gap.
Gemma added: “We represent candidates in this specialist sector looking for new opportunities and equally support clients in finding top talent to drive their business forward. We offer full support for free to candidates in terms of interview preparation, help with CVs and throughout the process.
“I launched the business on 25th January 2017, built a website, researched the market, constructed legal documents and contracts for clients/candidates, developed new business, implemented a CRM database and successfully built the business from scratch to a high turnover and made over 80% profit. I initially invested in a laptop and printer and set up camp in my front room. To fund my start-up, alongside raising a young family of five children under 11, I took a job as a nanny in the early mornings and evenings for a local family.
“Once I retained my first couple of clients I invested more money into relevant job boards such as Indeed, CV Library and Total Jobs. I now have a large database of candidates and a steady flow of clients approaching my business to recruit top talent in the industry as well as a relationship with several UK leading national retailers, manufacturers, trade specialists and independents. I have also won business with large international clients, who have a large presence in Europe and the USA, due to the reputation and brand I have created in the industry.”
