See some of the finest livestock in the country

Cattle, sheep, horses, pigs and poultry will be in abundance at this year’s show.

As well as the chance to get up close to all types of livestock, you can watch some of the best breeders and handlers in the country compete against each over for the coveted trophies and rosettes. There is also the popular and traditional parade of heavy horses .

Visit the poultry marquee for an opportunity to cuddle a chicken.  Designed to educate as well as to be fun, the poultry marquee will be an area of interest for everyone.

Large fenced off runs will predominate in this marquee dressed with trees, plants, furniture for groups of poultry to wander around in.  There will be a display of fancy pigeons and there will be a children’s colouring corner with outlines of chickens, ducks to be decorated. You can also to purchase birds at the show.

The heavy horse classes will see these massive horses trundling round the rings. Harvey’s Brewery is sponsoring a perpetual trophy for this section and Harvey’s dray and pair will be parading round the main ring at certain times during the day.

There are 90 horse classes during the day with almost 600 entries each year. Classes start early in the morning with six dedicated equine rings showing horses and ponies both in hand and ridden, from miniatures to heavy horse, from carriage driving to side saddle. Visitors can watch a full program of competitions throughout the day.

The cattle contest will be another highlight with competitions for beef, dairy and rare breeds. Come and watch these beautiful beasts and the impressive skills of their handlers. The cattle parade will be at 14.30.

The pig section includes classes for commercial and showing stock which attracts exhibitors from all across the country as they compete for the Best of Class and Champion Pig of the Show

The Heathfield Show continues to be an important place for exhibitors to bring their sheep. There is a large number of entries in all classes . In the afternoon there will be a parade of sheep around the sheep showing pens where there will be a representative cross section of breeds.
