The Repair Café – helping to keep repairable items out of landfill.
8th February

The Repair Café helping to keep repairable items out of landfill.
A Repair Café is where you can bring your broken items to see if it’s possible for them to be repaired. It doesn’t charge for this service but do ask for a donation to help cover costs. It is happy to take cash or it has a card reader.
The repairers are all volunteers and are people who have a passion for saving items going to the Tip or landfill unnecessarily.
The Repair Cafe covers all sorts of items such as Computers, Electrical Items, Small Furniture repairs, Broken Ceramics, Minor Mechanical Problems, Bicycles, Knife Sharpening, Sewing, Clocks, Sewing Machine Checkups and Darning.
The repair team are experienced in their own field and many are retired from work where their skills were used regularly and honed to a high standard. The repairer will look at the item and decide whether it’s something that can be repaired. Sometimes, a repair can take too long for it to be done during the morning, so the cafe can give advice as to where to take it to be repaired or the repairer may suggest that they take it home and return it to the Café the next month. This is entirely down to the discretion of the repairer.
Whilst you are waiting for your turn to see a repairer, the cafe sell delicious homemade cakes and cups of tea or coffee for you to enjoy.
Repair Cafe is open every second Saturday of the month
The Repair Cafe is open every second Saturday of the month, except for August, from 9am-12noon. Meetings will be at the new Youth Hub in Heathfield High Street, next to the Co-Op. There is plenty of free parking in either the Co-Op or the carpark on the other side of the main road behind the Fire Station. Unfortunately, there is little parking on site but there is enough room to drop off your item, if necessary, and then park your car. There are two disabled bays on site.
This last year, the Repair Cafe was able to give to two charities from the surplus of donations to the Hailsham Foodbank and to the Horam Community Gard

The Repair Cafe is next open on 14 February, even if it’s only to come and have a look or to come and try out the refreshments. See you there!
